When the world’s first superfast internet service goes live, you’re probably thinking: What the heck is superfast?
Fast-moving tech companies are hoping to change that.
In Australia, one of the fastest-growing sectors of the global internet market is mobile internet.
The industry is booming with companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter taking an aggressive stance against the telcos, offering speeds up to 50Gbps for a monthly fee.
The first service launched in Australia on September 11, 2018, was dubbed “Superfast”.
But it wasn’t the first super-fast internet, it wasn- it was the first internet service to come online from a private company.
“We started to see a lot of competition in the telco space,” Kazuo Fukutani, an analyst at Research & Markets Group, told Business Insider Australia.
“That led to a lot more companies jumping on board.
And we’ve seen a lot in terms of new entrants like Google and Facebook.”
The launch of the new “SuperFast” service was a success for the company.
But what about your internet?

We’ve been following Superfast’s progress for the past three years, and what we’ve learned is that many Australians are not happy with the service.
The telcos have struggled to attract customers.
The service can take days to arrive and many customers have received a refund.
The company has also been criticised for using a high-bandwidth network and not providing adequate speeds for its customers.

On March 10, 2020, Superfast began rolling out the new service to customers in Sydney.
In December 2020, the company launched a nationwide test, which saw Superfast users sign up for an unlimited plan.
Then in January 2021, the rollout of its full service was announced.
This week, Superfreak became the first service to hit Australia’s major cities and towns, with speeds of up to 100Mbps.
Kazu Fukutaki, an Analyst at Research&MarketsGroup, tells Business Insider that Australians have become increasingly unhappy with the way their telcos are trying to attract users.
It’s not just about being able to surf the internet at super-speed, but also having superfast data speeds, he says.
“They’re trying to do everything they can to appeal to consumers,” he said.
Fukutani believes that the company’s success will hinge on the telcoms efforts to improve customer service.
He thinks the tels may have had a “false start” when they started introducing new services, and he says that it’s likely they will have to spend more time and money in order to make Superfast an everyday feature in their networks.
And the teles will need to take more care in terms, if you like, of how their network works.
For instance, Fukutakis fears that Superfast may not always be available at the same time as other popular services like Netflix.
According to Superfast, Superfans are also likely to be disappointed with the company as it has faced negative press.
One of the issues that Superfanners has had is with their data caps.
Many people have complained that Superfreaks data caps are too high, with the telscop saying it will raise data caps to 10GB by the end of 2021.
As well, some customers have complained about the fact that they cannot access Superfast on their phones.
A spokesperson for Superfast says that they are committed to offering customers with high-speed broadband access at a fair price, and Superfast will not increase its data caps again in 2021.
“We will not raise our data caps and are committed not to do so again in 2022,” Superfast said in a statement.
While Superfast is not planning to raise its data cap again, Fukuto says that he hopes the telfoms will take measures to make sure their networks work better.
That is why Superfast has launched a campaign called, “We’ll fix your internet” to improve service, with Superfast encouraging customers to share their experiences with their telco.
So, if your internet is fast, why is it slow?
Fukuto says Superfast wants to improve the speed of their network and that will be the key to getting more customers online.
“If we can improve our network speeds, we’ll be able to make it a more enjoyable experience,” he says, adding that they will also have to look into improving data speeds.
We’ve also seen a rise in speed and usage of other mobile services.
The Superfast website claims that the speed and performance of its services are “better than ever”.
