A former fast food restaurant owner in South Carolina says he would eat at McDonalds or Burger King if he had to.
Chris Jones, who owns The Great American Fast Food, said he was a fan of fast food as a child.
“I loved fast food,” he told ABC News affiliate WLOS.
“I think that when you go to a fast food place, you feel like you’re actually at a big family dinner, and you’re getting that family atmosphere.”
If you can’t go there for the meal, then maybe you’re not a big fan of the food,” Jones said.
Jones said his family has a family tradition of making “fast food” and that he believes he could “pull off” what he does.”
You don’t have to be a celebrity chef,” Jones told WLOS, “but if you want to be, then do it.
“When you make it and it’s your own, it’s the most rewarding thing that you can do.”
Fast food restaurants are notoriously difficult to break into.
In the past, fast food restaurants have had to hire high-level chefs and chefs have to work in front of customers, but Jones said he has no such restrictions.
“It’s not hard to make it, but it’s tough to break in,” he said.
“So you can try to be that chef that’s going to make something different and try to keep your quality low, but I don´t have that luxury.”
Jones is not the first fast food company to come under fire over its practices.
Last week, fast-food company Wendy’s was hit with a class-action lawsuit from customers over the treatment of workers.
The lawsuit alleges the company has forced its workers to work longer hours than minimum wage, overwork, and not be paid overtime.
Wendy’s claims the lawsuit is without merit and that it has complied with state and federal labor laws.
In a statement, Wendy’s said the company “is committed to maintaining and enhancing the highest standards of customer service.”
Wendys’ corporate parent, JBS Corp., said in a statement that it is “not aware of any such claims” and has been in “good working relationships with employees throughout this process.”
A McDonald’s spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment from ABC News.
The Great American fast food is owned by a retired restaurant worker named Jeff Hurd, who also owns the Taco Bell and Dunkin Donuts chains.
He has also been a vocal critic of fast-casual restaurants, including McDonalds.
The former McDonalds worker said he would have been willing to eat at a Burger King or McDonalds if he was in a position to do so.
“At the end of the day, I would love to be able to go to McDonalds and eat at Taco Bell,” he explained to WLOS last week.
“But if I was in the McDonalds, I’d have to get up and get a burger.
It would have to sit in a hot tub for 10 hours.
It wouldn’t be as good as a McDonalds.””
It wouldn’t have any flavor.”
